A Mars-Pluto Squabble ~ 10 Oct 2015

Since the discovery of Pluto and the determination by astrologers that the two planets share rulership over Scorpio, there has been a deep rift between these planets. Really, who is the ruler, and/or if it a shared celestial charge, who the Hades rules which/what aspects of Scorpio?

Recently NASA announced that Mars has running salt water (which could likely be converted to drinkable) on its surface in present time. Did you see how much money (Pluto) Matt Damon’s movie, The Martian, raked in concurrent with this announcement? Do you wonder if this announcement on the heels of New Horizon’s passage of Pluto and Charon that Mars works to upstage Pluto’s bump in public consciousness and draw all attention back to his redness that isn’t all that red?

To Mars, Pluto says, “That’s nothing. My tango partner, Charon, displays evidence of unusual water-based lava flow. Not just water, but lava, too! Take that, Mars!”

New Horizon pictures of Charon reveal the water-based lava sweep created a canyon four times as long as the Grand Canyon and twice as deep in places. Quoting from an article on SpaceWeather.com, ‘“It looks like the entire crust of Charon has been split open," says John Spencer, a member of the New Horizons Science Team from the Southwest Research Institute. “With respect to its size relative to Charon, this feature is much like the vast Valles Marineris canyon system on Mars.”’

So Mars and Charon share similar characteristics, unique in their own way. As far as Pluto goes, astronomers report it has a fascinating geology, which seems a careless misrepresentation. It should be plutology, should it not? Hey, our favorite planet has been through enough. Show some respect.

Below is a New Horizon close-up of Charon, clearly displaying his noteworthy canyon.

What about this rulership thing for Scorpio? We should get that right. In no time, the Sun, Mercury, Venus and Mars transit Scorpio. It helps to know who triggers what. Most astrologers report: Mars = mundane; Pluto = spiritual.

Not so fast. Every act undertaken (a lovely Pluto word) in life impacts one’s dharma and spiritual evolution. So even the most basic daily drill task performed in the context of Mars directly contributes to ones spiritual quest.

Parallel to the above, every spiritual act poses mundane consequence. How many times has it occurred that a person on the quest for enlightenment disavows mundane matters either unwittingly or intentionally, and with what level of consequence?

Water is the common factor causing the astronomical competitiveness between the co-planet in the Pluto system and Mars. Natural science (the mundane) undisputedly notes that water supports life - as we know it. Symbolic science observes that water relates to the deepest emotions.

How ironic these celestial water claims tantalize our attention at a time when terrestrial water status fills the news. South Carolina this week received more rain than in the past thousand years (Pluto calls bullpucky on the claim... how could they possibly know that... the first rain gauge was invented in 1441... 574 years ago), and California hovers on the cusp of catastrophic drought. Throughout the world, extremes in drought and flooding occur with increasing regularity, denied and/or supported by scientific speculation that is either profanity or sacred doctrine, depending upon the coloring of the politician... climate change.

Back to topic... Mars and Pluto and their highly competitive grab for Scorpio hold personal implications, too, depending upon what you have going between Mars and Pluto, natally or by transit or any system of direction.

Do your intentions (Pluto) and actions (Mars) align? Is everything you do an expression of your personal evolution? Do you gracefully accept the accrual and kudos that your accomplishments bring your way and use those to fortify your soul? There are no greed hazards in play, right? After all, who wants to be a plutocrat? Further, everything is above board... personal and professional communications fastidiously forthright? Cool.

Rather immediately there are patterns in play that help resolve any personal power discrepancies or conflicts between balancing the real world with spiritual pursuit.

In the next twenty-four hours Jupiter trines Pluto. The largest planet and the smallest planet sit by the River Styx for a spell, watching the water roll by in Siddharthian contemplation and comparing notes on what should lord over the mundane world, emotional realm and spiritual dimensions. During this interval, you too can relax a spell and contemplate what rules your worlds. Can you change any rules, push back against rules, or modify behavior for a better fit and smoother accomplishment of emotionally rewarding goals? Remember, Pluto’s pal, Charon, controls passage into the underworld and remains a piper (ferryman) who must be paid (ancient civilizations often place a coin under the tongue of the deceased to pay passage on Charon’s ferry).

With Pluto and Jupiter: do your beliefs and urges of spirit match? If not, tweak through the trine.

On October 15thMars trines Pluto. Here a united front between Scorpio’s power players should gracefully occur. Perhaps calming in global hostilities can become a welcome precedent. Personally, a united front occurs between ego-based reactions (How dare they not notice what I accomplished or won?) and the cosmic sensibility to sort out that whole “won the battle lost the war thing.”

With Mars and Pluto, pick your battles, keep your powder dry (especially with all the water about), and cultivate an especially sharp boundary between when to retreat, remain static, or advance.

On October 17th Mars directly aligns with Jupiter, finishing off the sequence and theoretically negotiating the rift. Both Mars and Jupiter contribute to souls on Earth actively propitiating with every well-intended act engaged (Mars is the act; Jupiter the belief behind the act which satisfies Pluto’s demand for intention). For inhabitants of Earth it is rather all about achieving that reflective point colloquially known as “the end of the day.” At that reflective point, review of the day savors accomplishments, allows for modification of events in progress and reaffirms and replenishes the spirit for the day to come.

With Mars and Jupiter, know why you are doing what you are doing. If there’s no rhyme nor reason behind activity, it may be knee-jerk in nature and a moment’s chill time (or more) ensures you are not swept away in your own emotional tides. Be buoyant, floating on the wave of your senses and sensitivities.

Given the rulership rift is potentially settled, if you had to live on another planet and Mars or Pluto-Charon were the options, which would you choose? Why is that?
